The Frozen Chosen says their Goodbyes

Hi friends,

Yesterday the team packed up and waited for our flight home. Unfortunately, after several delays the flight was eventually cancelled due to poor visibility at Union Glacier.

Today, we woke up to a cold and windy camp, but the skies had cleared. The 757 left Punta Arenas, Chile late this morning and will be landing on the Blue Ice Runway before long. The food at Union Glacier has been great and the team has been making new friends from all around the world. It has been an outstanding experience, but the Frozen Chosen are all ready to start the long journey home.

Team HBM at Union Glacier Camp

Hello & Namaste Everyone,

All of the Alpine Ascents team are enjoying their few days in Antarctica before heading back to civilization tomorrow if all goes well with weather.

Today the majority of the team went to South Pole on a day trip and a few went to watch the Illusion landing in Blue Ice Runway. Everybody had another great day here in Antarctica and hopefully the team will fly back to civilization tomorrow. If they do, I will have another team coming in for Vinson 5 and will be heading back to climb Vinson again.

It was a pleasure climbing with all of them, huge congrats to Hari Budha Magar who became the first ever Double Above Knee Amputee to have climbed all the 7 summits, and congratulations to all the climbers as well.

RaChoDan’s Eleven Takes a Rest Day in Plaza Argentina

We took a final rest day in Plaza Argentina and made our preparations for beginning the upper mountain portion of our trip starting tomorrow. The staff at base camp have been extremely gracious hosts. We have enjoyed many delicious meals, hot showers, and much hospitality. Tomorrow we will advance to our first upper mountain camp at 16,300 ft.

The Frozen Chosen flys to the South Pole!

Hi friends,

The Frozen Chosen spent the day yesterday relaxing at Union Glacier and organizing a flight to the South Pole. Today the entire team flew 3.5 hours to the South Pole and spent 3 hours there taking in the views and posing for lots of pictures. They just arrived back in camp and are eating a huge dinner.

If the weather cooperates, we are scheduled to leave the frozen continent tomorrow after and fly back to Chile. It has been a great trip, but everyone is ready to head home to their friends and family.

The Frozen Chosen is Back to Basecamp!

Hi friends,

Team Frozen Chosen had a huge day today! We had breakfast, packed up camp, and descended over 5,000 vertical feet to Vinson base camp. The team crushed the fixed lines and sled pulling making great time to Base Camp. After our celebration and team photos, Geoff treated the team to endless cheeseburgers.

To top it all off, we were fortunate enough to get on the last flight of the day out of Vinson Base Camp and we are now in the comfort of Union Glacier. In just over 24 hours we’ve gone from the summit of Mount Vinson to heated buildings, hot showers, and movies. The team is extremely excited! They are currently settling into there tents and enjoying the relative warmth of Union Glacier (12 F).

The next few days will be spent relaxing around Union Glacier and awaiting our flight back to Chile. We’ll continue to send updates while we’re here. Thanks for following this great climb!
