Speed Ascent team moves to Island Peak Base Camp

Hi all,
Happy April 1 from Dingbouche. The team enjoyed a wonderful rest day here in town. Some members caught up on reading their books while others enjoyed a mid day nap. In the afternoon we packed and prepared for our Island Peak portion of the trip. Tomorrow we will leave Dingbouche and heading up the valley towards Island Peak spending 1 night (2 days) along the way in a tea house before reaching Island Peak basecamp. Right now we are aiming for an April 4th summit attempt on Island Peak. This will be the first time over 20,000ft for this team of climbers!
We will keep you all updated and thanks for following our cybercast!

Looking down into the town of Dingbouche
Namaste everyone,
The team has reached Lukla at 9,300 feet, the end of our trek. The last few days have been beautiful, with sunny mornings and abundant mountain vistas.
Several team members flew out by helcicopter from Gorak Shep, just below Everest Base Camp.
As we reach lower elevations and thicker air, spring is in the air and the Rhododendrons are starting to bloom. A heavy rain yesterday afternoon in Namche made sure the trails were not dusty on this last stretch to Lukla.
Overall, we have been very fortunate with the weather these last 2 weeks.
Tomorrow am we are scheduled for a helicopter flight back to the comforts of Kathmandu and the famous Yak and Yeti hotel.
We will send one last post from Kathmandu.
Thanks for following along.
