Ecuador Volcanoes Cybercast

The Super Moon Team continues to climb steadily through the Ecuadorian Andes.  After resting and taking in our ascent of Cayambe, we moved south. 

Cotopaxi welcomed us with open arms, beautiful afternoons, and incredible views. The mountain remains in excellent condition, but it did let us know that it can be cool and cold. With low temperatures, the team had to use all the layers we had. The reward: 100% clear skies and all the volcanoes in sight, the SUPER MOON team has 100% success on this climb too.

The SUPER MOON team remains motivated, one day at a time, one step at a time. Thanks to the team of guides who make all this possible.

We spent a few hours at the Oleas Ruales Verge Refuge in Cayambe at 15,500 feet. After some rest, we woke up at 11:00 p.m. and began walking at midnight. A few hours later, we were watching the sunrise, and minutes after that, we were at the summit of Cayambe, the snow-capped volcano closest to the equator.

It has been six days since the team arrived in Quito. We have been walking and acclimatizing in the Andes, starting in the historic center of Quito, among churches and chocolate.

We had a great day hike around Parcachoca Lake with beautiful views of Antisana.

Along the way, we have been able to see all of Ecuador’s glaciated mountains: Cayambe, Antisana, Cotopaxi, and Chimborazo.

We arrived at Cayambe, where the full moon and good weather followed us. We have already acclimatized on the Cayambe glacier and are now ready for our first attempt at the summit.
